MEET STEVE

A PROVEN LEADER IN OUR COMMUNITY.

Steve Woitkun Sr. has been married to his wife, Corinne for 34 years. They have two children, Ashley and Steven Jr., and two grandchildren, David and Jaxson. Ashley is a dance instructor, and her husband, David, works for Market Basket. Steven Jr. is a Firefighter/EMT for Salem Fire Department, and also works part-time for Danville Fire Department. He has been with his girlfriend, Amanda, for several years.

After 22 years with the Salem, N.H. Fire Department, as a Lieutenant/Station Officer, Steve retired. He has been a member of the Danville Fire Department since 1984, and has spent the last 10 years as Danville’s Fire Chief.

In his tenure as Danville Fire Chief, Steve has:

  • Been under budget every single year, and returned money to the town/taxpayers due to fringe benefits.

  • Secured grants – this has increased safety and efficiency within the Danville FD.

  • Started a waste oil program – this helps residents dispose of waste oil, and also heats the apparatus bays. Danville FD has not had to buy heating oil for 3 years, saving taxpayers thousands of dollars.

  • Ensured excellent fire coverage for the residents of Danville, by staffing the firehouse with per-diem FF/EMTs from Monday-Friday 8am-4pm, and by increasing training for the department.

When he is not serving the public as Chief, Steve has owned and operated two small businesses, Yankee Chimney and Salem Fire Extinguisher Company. He sold Salem Fire Extinguisher Company in 2006, after increasing the revenue and customer base 400% in just four years.

Steve attended Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and later went to Essex Tech and earned his Associate’s of Applied Science in Natural Resources/Forestry. He also has numerous certifications for firefighting and EMS.

A member of St. Anne’s Parish in Hampstead, NH, Steve enjoys hunting, shooting, gardening, motorcycling, and camping. In 2002, Steve took a motorcycle trip with his brother firefighters to Colorado Springs, to honor those firefighters who passed in the 9/11/2001 tragedy. He also participated in a ride on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 in NYC. Steve has enjoyed many various charity rides over the years, and also participates in the community as part of the Salem Firefighter Relief Association, the Danville Fire Association, and as the elected Fire Ward in Danville for 20 years. Steve is active in youth athletics, including Danville Youth Baseball, Nor-Roc Vikings Football, and Timberlane Tornado’s Football.
